First you have to find out the real estate course, licensing and continuing education requirements for PA. Then check out real estate courses in your area. Your local high school adult ed programs typically offer RE salesperson courses, and so do many community college continuing ed/adult ed programs.
You need to know real estate law, real estate financing, ethics, etc, to obtain a license, and yes, the exams are typically very difficult. Also, you have to take additional coursework every year, take additional exams, and renew your license by proving you completed your continuing education requirements, passed any required exams, and pay a license renewal fee.

you need to practice “sales” [or buyer agency] for 3 yrs to become
eligible to become a RE broker.
Thus, the first license in all states is a sales license regardless
what it is called.
while on line instruction is available, do NOT take it to prepare for
the state exam~! [after you are licensed and need your
bi-annual renewal hours, then it is ok to take on line courses]
you also need to decide what type of RE practice you want to
do; listing, dual agency [horrible thing]
buyer’s agency [much in demand]

your intentions and career choice are honorable but initially I’d have to ask if you are an outgoing person, if you are well known in your community, are you older and have you made lots of friends along the way of your career or if your family well known and have lived stable in your community over a long time, and do you have $10,000 in the bank, a new car and the ability to learn lots of rules and follow them and can do finances and plan ahead easily. Well those are the requirements to become a real estate agent. I’ve been there, done that for 11 years.
First you take the real estate salesman’s course (about 14 weeks) and must reach a passing grade on the test (as I recall it’s 75). You can take that course in either at a junior college or university, or sometimes the courses are held at the offices of a broker (and they help you so that you will work for them afterwards). After you pass your course you’ll apply for the state test, fill out the application and send them a set of your fingerprints and a copy of your criminal background form and include the testing fee. Thre are people who take the test and pass it the first time, then there are others that I’ve spoken with who took the test 6 or 7 times. Once you pass that test you then take a post-real estate salesman’s course. Then you find yourself a real estate broker who will take you in. Occasionally but not all brokers, will pay you a stipend to work in their office. Nevertheless you’ll be using your own personal $10,000 that you saved up to get started in real estate. The broker will want you to take more courses (finance and marketing) on your own. You’ll spend money on advertising yourself, advertising homes you are trying to sell, you’re taking people around in your own car to show them homes, you’re making phone calls and have a cell phone plus making long distance calls, etc. all at your own cost. Joining the proper organizations is at your own cost too as well as your business cards and announcements.
At some brokers offices you will pay for your desk (and the cost is like renting an efficiency apartment) and you’ll be nickled and dimed to death paying for every sheet of paper you xerox and for every stamp they use for you. You will be expected to work out of the broker’s office daily, be in weekly meetings, have open houses and attend open houses, and go on caravans, and even to be receptionist as well.
Every couple of years you will need to update your license and pay a fee, but also to do that you will need to update your schooling (that can be done by a correspondence course), and the money for those comes out of your pocket as well.
Best of luck to you.

Take some rel estate classes. Complete and pass the tests, get some experience, maybe work for someone else for a while, so you can get some experience and possibly learn more of the pros and cons. We are in a recession in my city and real estate is the worse field for anyone. More and more ppl are having a lot of fore-closures on homes, and real estate the worse field right now. Hopefully the city where you live in is more in the demand for a broker. Talk to some of the people who are already successful in your field. Take the broker license exam and once you pass, your all set. I heard it only takes about 6 – 8 weeks less. check to see possibly on line which one in your state is the fastest, some of them even have on line classes just as good. Good Luck.
