Generally that area of land either belongs to the local city/town or has easements for official use.
Most municipalities do not allow the posting of any type of signs or other means of advertising in those areas and be mindful of the fact that a sign or other obstruction can be considered a nuisance to you and you neighbors.
If it were my house I’d simply make the sign disappear or if I was in a good frame of mind I’d lay it down so the Realtor could retrieve it.

Take a look at your plat map or lot map (you can get those at the city land and development office) – if it lists that property as part of your lot, you can do with it what you want. If it’s listed as “city” land, I’m sorry but you may be out of luck.

Please clarify… Are you the one placing your house on the market and don’t want a sign? Or has one of your neighbors placed theirs on the market and their Realtor is placing a directional sign in your yard?

If you are the one listing your house, keep the sign. How else are you going to let people know that you are selling your property.

If it’s a neighbor and their Realtor placed a directional sign on your property, not the city or county easement, then by all means, call the agent and ask them to remove the sign, if you don’t like it there. I place directional signs for open houses. I place them just before my open house, then have them down within 10 to 15 minutes of the open house ending.

If it is on the city or county easement, you can always double check with the Code Enforcement Dept. to see if placing the signs are in violation of any type of codes. Orlando FL has a no yard sign ord. and picks up signs all the time. They are fining violators ,000 per sign for repeat offenders.

I’m assuming that this isn’t your house that is being sold.

If a Realtor puts a sign in your yard…then pick it up, and throw it away…trust me, they are used to it.

The listing agreement will address this issue. Some people specify there is to be no sign, for whatever personal reason they have, possibly to prevent total strangers from seeing the house is for sale as well as thwarting nosy neighbors.

if it’s outside your fence or near the sidewalk then this is the nature strip which is the Local Government (Council) property.

It is most likely part of an easement to you propriety, but if you are not selling your home, why would a real estate agent put a sign out in front of your home? If on the other hand you are selling your home and have contracted with this agent to sell it, then he does have the right to put a sign up on the easement, you granted that permission when you signed the contract.

I am a real estate agent and my theory is I should always ask permission and also thank the people that allow me to put up directional signs.

Someone is a jerk if they don’t. They are also stupid because the sign may “disappear” each week if they don’t ask you.

I think the agent should ask first as its just more proper. But there may be an easement there and in that case they wouldnt have to ask permission
