As far as the state of CA goes, as long as you are enrolled in the principles and possible 1 or 2 more you may schedule your exam. As far as getting the lic. you need to complete the required courses. Also be sure to read and study so you know what real estate is about. You may want to check with a real estate school to see if that law has changed because they are changing the requirements. check out this site or call them.

In Texas you can’t. You have to finish the required courses first and then you can apply for an “inactive” license if you don’t have a sponsoring broker. If you want to activate your license and make a commission, you’ll have to sign up under a broker. This will activate your license.

I can answer for the state of Michigan: you have to have 40 hours of schooling and pass an exam at the school, and THEN you can take the exam for the state. You pay in advance and go to a location and take it on a computer, which they give you up to 3 hours. Your score is printed RIGHT THERE as soon as you are done, and you find out if you passed or failed. Good Luck – my best advice is for 2 weeks of the schooling: Eat, Breathe, and drink “real estate” It is going to go by so fast – but guess what “YOU CAN DO IT” .

I believe you may have to wait until you finish your class(es), then affiliate with a firm after you’ve passed your state tests, then once you’ve affiliated with a firm then you apply for your license…
