You look up the requirements in your state. In most states..you need to take a 60 hour class and pass a few exams.

Contact a local real estate company. Many real estate companies (like Caldwell Banker Prudential, Century 21) provide real estate classes. Once you take the real estate course, you apply to the state you wish to be licensed in.

Take classes and get your license. Any major real estate office (Baird & Warner, ReMax, etc.) would set you up with them.

You better go to your local Community College and register for a evening or weekend or one week class – because it is cheaper.
All licensing exam are computerized and will be at an one location recognized by local government.
The college will give you enough info also how to interview the real estate companies in your area when you decide to start with somebody. At the beginning you need a big company that will provide in house training for free or for an acceptable fee.

Some community colleges offer the course, some brokerages do also. Call around and see where you can take the course. There is a background check, including fingerprinting. Of course, you have to pass an exam. Then to become licensed, you have to join your local organization and the NAR. There are fees for your lock box key and such. It can cost around $2,000 to get started.
