most likely it will continue until june of next year at least. real estate prices will go down if people stop buying.

prices will NOT be going up any time soon. the tax credit MAY be extended. It isn’t yet but I believe there is a good chance of this.

Remember real estate is a long term investment. Trying to time the market to buy at the bottom is like playing the stock market. Hopefully if you buy now you will hold onto the property long enough to make it back to the upswing in prices.
My guess is that prices will drop more after the $8000 tax credit ends. The reason is that most of the people that were “on the fence” about buying a house have jumped in and purchased. (i know not you, but you still have time) Less buyers on the market, less demand, prices go down. We are also coming up on the slow time in the real estate market. (holidays thru early winter)
If you look at the car markets now the dealers are hurting. Everyone thinking about buying a car jumped in to get the clunkers deal. Now there is a car sales slump.
