Every state has it’s own laws about how to get a real estate license. I would look on the Internet for the real estate commission in your state.
To be successful I would get a mentor in the type of real estate you want to be successful in. Work for them and learn the business. That is how I did it.

I’ve never known a real estate office to turn anyone way. They aren’t hiring you, they’re renting you space and letting you use their name. You are self employed, and you are 100% in charge of managing yourself. If it’s a really good office, they’ll cover some of your costs and provide you with on-going education.
If I list all of the responsibilities and what it takes to be successful, it winds up as a really long answer. Google things like “day in the life of a real estate agent” or “what’s it like to be a real estate agent” or “how to be a successful real estate agent.”

You need to find out the requirements for a license in your state. Most states require a $300-$400 60 hour class and then you need to take and pass the tests. The start up is not cheap and you most likely won’t make enough money to live on. 80% of new agents quit after a year..there is a lot of competition and it’s never a steady paying career.

Great post! I completely understand your question. Money is hard for a lot of people right now since the enconomy is going down. My friend told me about this website of an organization that gives people up to $1500 towards their rent or mortgage. It’s available in most areas, so I think you should check it out.

I would do a search online for real estate school and the state you are in. Also look arond when you are driving, that is how I find a real estate school. Or, if you want to take online classes try, which is offered by the national association of realtors. But I would suggest going into a classroom to take the courses, but that depends on how you personally learn best.
And yes, that law experience may get your foot in the door at a real estate company, but I would say shop around for a prospective employer and ask many different questions. Decide if your want to be an employee or independent contractor and also look closely at their comission splits, desk fees, etc. Hope this helps!
