Look Its Jay asked:
I'm a graduating senior in high school and about to enter college during the Fall. I am wondering how long is the process to obtain a real estate salesperson license. Also, what is the simple difference between a broker and salesperson? I believe a broker is above the salesperson, correct? And how do I get MLS? Thanks to anyone who can help. Thanks so far! Very informative from all of you.

Talk to a real estate broker you know or call First Tuesday or a real estate school or somebody at the college.
We have Fivehundred Thousand real estate licencees here in CA.
Thats what I said; $500,000.
This is not a very good time to sell real estate but it is a good time to get your license.

You need to study at a local school where they train you so you can pass the exam to get a license. The broker is the top dog above the salesman. The realty usually just has to join the MLS after they have a license to operate. You should be able to become a realtor is jobs are available in about 6 months. It’s not a very good paying job in today’s tough housing market and is a real dog eat dog world to work in.

Its a tough Business. I know a realtor who is 20 who has had her license two years. she is the exception. Her father is a realtor and she still lives at home. In this market you will need at least two years expenses to get you on your way unless you are very lucky. Talk to a broker before you make any decisions. Most are very helpful with prospective realtors. Know your market before you spend money on what may be a loosing proposition.

you will first need to take some pre-license classes, then the exam for salesperson. You will need to find a good broker to sponsor you. After a few years of experience you can then take the Broker classes and exam. To get into MLS you will first need to be an agent and the you just pay your fees.
Just know that you will need to spend some upfront money to really get started. But with a couple of homes sold you will make that money back pretty quickly.
Make sure YOU interview several different brokers before deciding on one. You will need to be able to click with this person and the other agents.
I just got my license this past Dec and I have having a great time. Lots on long hours and busy weekends, I have already sold 6 homes this year. Things are tough but with hard work you can do it!
