Real Estate isn’t your typical career per se. It’s having your own business. If you don’t have capital to get started, what do you have? Classes costs $1,000-$1,500, most can be completed within several months. You will also have to take a state exam and pass. As a new Associate/Agent you have to put your license with a Broker. You will need to work out a business plan with this broker as to your cut of the business you generate. Then you will have all the normal business expenses, plus twice as much to pay in income tax and insurance. And you should have several years worth of income you can live on while building up your new business.
Best of Luck!

The fastest way to get through any class is to take it online. I don’t know what the rules are in all states, but in California, you currently need three classes and you have to take an exam that asks different questions than what you learned in the classes. Your main concern should be the test–you really have to study for it.
Make sure you go to an accredited school and find out through them how long it will take for you to get through the class if you go fast. They all have different prices, so just set aside some time and do research on schools and then select the best one. = )
Don’t worry about how much you have to pay your broker. Some brokers ask for a % of your commission and don’t make you pay a regular monthly desk fee, so you don’t have to worry about paying them up front. Some brokers and managers even help you get signs, or borrow one temporarily until you’ve made your first commission. Sometimes smaller offices are more accommodating.
I think you should go for it. It’s more of a matter of choosing the right school and the right office to work for.
