I'm thinking outside of the box. I want to venture out into small careers. I was thinking of real estate for one, perhaps as a part time to get started once this economy begins to rise again. What are the simplest steps into achieving that?

First, go talk to a few brokers (Real Estate Company owners or their sales managers) every state is slightly different, most brokerage companies do not hire part-timers. You should get some honest answers, about it taking 6-12 months to start making a living in Real Estate and 80% of the people who start, fail! In almost every state you start with a school of instruction course, then after passing that you can take the licensing test, after passing that you are ready to spend 5 years learning how to be a great salesperson if you desire to comit, the time, energy, money and effort to get your GRI, and other advanced training like CRS, ABR, e-PRO,etc.

Slightly different in different states. The basic idea is to take I think it was 24 hours worth of real estate classes, take and pass exam to get licensed, then sign with a broker (office) unless it’s a state where there are only brokers and no sales persons.
Then you can have all the joy of a real estate agent. Nothing compares to the fun of driving people around for a month only to have them go to an open house and buy without you because they thought they would save that way. Well, that’s all in the future so don’t feel to depressed if your first client doesn’t pull that off.

You seem like a entrepreneur to me! I too have experience in many features but I’m no Jack of all trades and Master of none. I am quite qualified in a few categories.
As for becoming a real estate agent. To be completely straight forward, if you want to just be able to help people find a home and make a little commission, you need nothing. Of course that would make ti very difficult as well though. Another way which is fairly less of a hassle is to join a Realtor company. When you become employed by ReMax, Tarbell or etc. they will often have a training process or courses for you to license and let you slowly climb up the ladder and give you the proper tools to access many houses with electronic pad locks. The final method is to take a class at a community college! Get an associates and understand the process completely. there are classes that are very specific such as focusing on Escrow. I would recommend taking classes in a college because it is actually quite quick and you can work while taking the classes them immediately start off with great knowledge in this field.
Good luck with your goals!

By the way, the market won’t rise for a while. It could stay low for years, at least a few more months.
