I am aware of how bad the economy is but I believe that when the economy gets better, this will be something I want to do. Any information that you can provide (good or bad) will be very helpful to me, as I would like to know exactly what I am getting into before diving in head first. If you are a realtor/real estate agent, do you enjoy it? Why or why not?

It’s not at all glamorous, Your nights and weekends won’t be yours anymore for the most part and with all the competition, making money is very hard.

There honestly is no way you can get a true impression of a career in the real estate industry from a few answers here on Yahoo! But for some overview and generalities….real estate can be an incredibly rewarding career. It takes some work, and you have to set boundaries otherwise you will be working 24/7…but it can be very flexible and very lucrative. While the economy is tough right now, there are still buyers out there, there is still money to be lent to buyers and there are plenty of foreclosures and short sales that need agent representation as well. So there is real estate work out there!
It is a business, and not a job. So it’s 100% commission. You don’t get paid until you close escrow on a property. If you have savings, or someone to help foot the bills while you are starting out, that is ideal. Otherwise, you’ll feel the stress of trying to ramp up your r.e. biz immediately.
There’s competition out there…but it’s actually gotten better because many agents have jumped ship since they can’t hack it in the current economy. Most of these agents jumped in when the r.e. market went crazy…the ones in the biz for the long haul are just getting back to basics and marketing as the always did…because real estate is a cyclical biz.
It’s a big decision, but for the right person, I would say that real estate can be a terrific career choice.
